Hyattsville, Maryland: Top DC Area Housing Market

Posted by Walnut Street Finance Team on Apr 19, 2018

Why Hyattsville, Maryland is one of DC Metro Area's Top Housing Markets

Hyattsville, Maryland is a dynamic suburb of Washington DC that has seen immense growth recently and is turning the heads of real estate investors and developers alike. While the DC area’s housing market has been steady overall, few areas have been able to match the dramatic growth of Hyattsville. In 2017, condo prices more than doubled over the previous year, and we believe real estate investment and development in the area will only continue.

What makes Hyattsville such an alluring investment opportunity? Certainly its proximity to DC and metro access is a plus, and with median condo sale prices in the mid 200s, its affordability is a huge draw when workforce-priced housing is increasingly strained. Beyond just numbers, Hyattsville presents itself as a diverse and dynamic community, with something for everyone. The city has a community newspaper, an active social media presence, and a website, featuring a welcome video on the homepage showcasing families, housing, local shops, nightlife, the arts, and ample parks and recreation areas. To put it plainly, the city is making an effort to put its best foot forward and it’s working.

As if that weren’t enough, Food & Wine recently announced that Vigilante Coffee Company has the best coffee in all of Maryland. Additionally, local residents and business owners have banded together to commission mural projects on unoccupied buildings in an effort to improve area aesthetics and draw more foot traffic. As a result, Hyattsville has become a big draw for Millennials looking for a DC area community to call home (and perhaps soon, Flipsters looking for a great investment project).
