The easiest way to learn something new is often to pick up a book and read about it - fix and flip investing is no different.


In the spirit of knowledge, we’ve put together another list of books that are worth the time of anyone interested in getting involved in real estate investment.

1. “The Book on Estimating Rehab Costs: The Investor's Guide to Defining Your Renovation Plan, Building Your Budget, and Knowing Exactly How Much It All Costs by J Scott

In addition to Scott’s other title, “The Book on Flipping Houses,” this book will give fix and flip investors an accurate picture of the costs of flipping an investment property. In this 200+ page tome, Scott details everything from building a timeline to completing the construction, along with all of the associated costs, down to the nail. If you’re getting ready for an upcoming investment, check this title out to learn what it costs to succeed in real estate investment.

2. “Fix and Flipping Real Estate: Strategies for the Post-Boom Era by Marty Boardman

House flipping has changed a ton since the housing bubble popped in the mid-2000s. What makes this book great is how Boardman frames these changes and explains how they can work to the investor’s advantage, whether that means finding the right contractors, completing affordable repairs, or raising the capital you need to get the job done right.

3. “Retire Rich with Rentals: How to Enjoy Ongoing Cash Flow From Real Estate...So You Don't Have to Work Forever by Kathy Fettke

This book is great for anybody who is 1) totally new to real estate investing, and 2) interested in the “fix and rent” model. Fettke covers important topics like why real estate investment is a promising store of value, how it can grow your retirement funds over time, and how to reach achieve your real estate investment goals in the long run. If you’re interested in fix and rent investing, this book is a great jumping-off point for your investment journey.

4. “The Complete Guide to Flipping Properties by Steve Berges

As the title suggests, this book covers the ins and outs of fix and flip investing, from the research you need to do beforehand, to which renovations you choose and how to complete them, and ultimately, how to resell your distressed property and collect your profit. Berges’ experience and many anecdotes come through in this work, and help provide colorful context to the many investment lessons offered in this volume.
